Research Proposal Project
This literature review discusses various perspectives on art education, visual culture, economic development, and community engagement. The authors in this review assert the importance of art concepts, such as colour, shape, and composition, in art education to develop students' understanding of visual art. Art can also cultivate empathy and a deeper understanding of the human experience. Curriculum Project
The trigger for this project has stemmed from an artistic endeavour of my own. Learning first hand of the benefactors of the midlands area in particular focusing on the bogs and waterways. For my own practice I focused on the farming of the boglands and discovered a world of information about my own hometown and my own culture that I had previously taken for granted and disregarded. Through a site visit to the now dilapidated home of Bord Na Mona, just ten minutes away from my home, paired with an interview with a former employee and part of the furniture in Bord Na Mona at the time, I discovered a world of meaningful, impactful and important information about my locality. It became apparent to me, the importance of industry in rural Ireland, how it endlessly feeds communities in a myriad of different ways, however since the closure of Bord Na Mona in my locality, the depletion of not only population but local businesses, which were the soul of the community is heartbreaking...
Short Course
This short course takes its inspiration from UN Goal –12 – ‘Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns’. This is especially important with the rise of fast-fashion brands, and the lack of education on their negative implications for both the environment and garment workers.
Sustainable clothing, fast fashion, making your own or upcycling clothes are all relevant topics to teenagers currently, with social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram promoting recycling and ‘thrifting’ of clothes, with a pushback against the craze of fast fashion overconsumption. The ‘#upcycle’ has 3.2 billion views on TikTok, with #upcycledfashon following closely behind with 1.1 billion views. The desire to ‘upcycle’ or re-design old clothes is especially prominent on TikTok, with the rise of the so-called ‘thrift-flip’ gaining traction amongst the fashion community on social media...
